Baby princess still unnamed as relatives visit – USA TODAY
It was visiting time at Kensington Palace on Sunday as carloads of royal and Middleton relatives of the new royal baby arrived to see the still unnamed princess.
No doubt the Prince of Wales and his wife, Camilla Duchess of Cornwall, plus Carole and Michael Middleton and their younger daughter, Pippa, are at least vaguely aware of what Prince William and Duchess Kate plan to call their new Princess of Cambridge.
But they’re not talking. The Cambridges aren’t talking, the baby is certainly not talking, and neither are the Kensington Palace press minions.
And the most important relative of all, great-granny Queen Elizabeth II, is at her Norfolk estate at Sandringham until Tuesday, so it may be another day before she meets the baby herself and approves the name.
Alice, Charlotte and Diana are among the top favorites, according to the betting companies in Britain, as Twitter speculation about various other names, such as Frances, continues. (Frances was one of the names of the late Princess Diana and also the name of her late mother.)
“No further guidance today,” said the palace press statement Sunday. The statement confirmed who came to see the baby at the vast Cambridge apartment at the palace, and also added more thanks from Will and Kate.
“The Duke and Duchess are hugely grateful for the messages of congratulations they have received from people all over the world. It means a great deal to them that so many people have celebrated the arrival of their new daughter,” the statement said.
“Their Royal Highnesses were today visited by The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Mr. and Mrs. Middleton, and Pippa Middleton.”
Oh, and Prince Harry, far away Down Under on a brief detachment with the Australian Army, added his congratulations about his new niece, who pushes him down to fifth-in-line to the throne.
“She is absolutely beautiful. I can’t wait to meet her,” Harry said, according to the palace.
She is indeed pretty cute, judging from the closeup pictures of her taken when Will and Kate emerged from St. Mary’s Hospital in London late Saturday, just over nine hours after she gave birth.
The baby was sleeping peacefully, her face relaxed, not red and scrunched up like so many newborns. Her outfit was already attracting attention.
When big brother Prince George was born in July 2013, Kate spent a night in the hospital, went home to the palace the next day, and it wasn’t until after the queen stopped in to visit the newborn that his name was announced.
Just hours after her birth, the new princess headed home with her parents. But first, a beaming Kate and William stepped outside of the hospital to show off their new daughter, to the delight of the cheering crowd.
